The Conference Experience
Combining historic charm with modern comfort, the Plumb Auditorium offers an inspiring and practical conference space in Cambridge. The room features high ceilings, excellent acoustics, and full air-conditioning, creating a comfortable and professional environment for a wide range of events.
It can accommodate up to 45 delegates seated around tables, and up to 70 in a theatre style making it particularly well suited for seminars, workshops, presentations, and collaborative meetings.
The flexible layout ensures the space can be adapted to suit different event styles and requirements.
History
Originally built as the Council Chamber of the former County Hall, the building was acquired by Christ’s College in 1983. The Auditorium was later named in honour of Sir John Plumb FBA (1911–2001), a renowned historian and former Fellow and Master of Christ’s College.
Sir John served as a Fellow from 1946 to 1978 and as Master from 1978 to 1982. During the Second World War, he worked at Bletchley Park as an analyst in the ULTRA signals intelligence operation before becoming a leading authority on the Stuart and Georgian periods of English history.
Today, the Plumb Auditorium continues its legacy as a remarkable conference space in Cambridge, where ideas are shared, discussions are held, and important connections are made.
