Set within beautiful gardens and historic courts in the heart of Cambridge, Christ’s College has been at the cutting edge of education for more than 500 years. Home to Milton’s Mulberry Tree and The Darwin Garden, the College provides an inspiring setting for students from around the world to learn, connect and create lasting memories.
Join us as we take you through a typical summer school experience at Christ’s College.
8:00am – Start the Day
Students wake up in their College accommodation and enjoy breakfast in our Upper Hall before preparing for the day ahead.
Our accommodation is offered as single study bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities, providing a comfortable and authentic Cambridge experience. As students make their way through the College grounds each morning, they are surrounded by centuries of history and some of Cambridge’s most beautiful architecture.
9:00am – Academic sessions begin
Learning takes place in a variety of teaching spaces set within the historic College environment
For longer programmes, classroom space can be reserved exclusively for your group, creating a familiar and welcoming place for students to return to each day. With peaceful surroundings and excellent facilities, students can fully focus on their studies while enjoying the unique atmosphere of Cambridge.
12:30pm – Lunch and time to relax
After a busy morning of learning, students can enjoy lunch in the Upper Hall before taking some time to explore the College.
Many choose to relax in the gardens, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the grounds. Others take the opportunity to discover more about the College’s fascinating history, including connections to famous alumni such as Charles Darwin and John Milton.
2:00pm – Discover the Christ’s Experience
A summer school at Christ’s College is about the whole experience and the traditions and history that make it what it is today.
Students can explore Charles Darwin’s restored College room (subject to availability), discover the stories behind the historic courts.
For groups looking to celebrate the end of their programme, a Formal Hall dinner in the magnificent Great Hall provides a truly memorable occasion and a fitting conclusion to their time in Cambridge.
5:30pm – Sports, socialising and free time
As the academic day comes to an end, students have the opportunity to relax and make the most of Cambridge.
Groups may arrange sporting activities, including rowing experiences on the River Cam, while the College Fitness Suite is available for guests. Students can also enjoy social time with friends, explore the city centre, or unwind within the College grounds.
The College Buttery offers a welcoming place to meet, socialise and enjoy the vibrant summer school atmosphere.
Weekend adventures
Alongside academic activities, many summer school programmes include exciting excursions, which could include the below options.
A day trip to London
A highlight for many students is a visit to London.
The day begins with a ride on the iconic London Eye, offering spectacular views across the capital and the chance to spot some of the city’s most famous landmarks from above.
Back on the ground, students can explore world-renowned attractions including the British Museum and the National Gallery before enjoying free time to discover the city at their own pace. Whether it’s shopping, sightseeing or simply soaking up the atmosphere, there is plenty to experience before heading back to Cambridge.
A relaxing Cambridge Sunday
After a busy day in London, Sunday offers a more relaxed pace.
Students can enjoy one of Cambridge’s most traditional activities with a leisurely punt along the River Cam. It’s the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax and admire the city’s stunning architecture from the water.
Students might also want to extend the experience with a traditional afternoon tea at the famous Fitzbillies. After cake and refreshments, the rest of the afternoon can be spent exploring Cambridge’s parks, historic streets and hidden corners.
